Every oven recipe can cook in an air fryer once you know one simple rule. This air fryer conversion chart turns any oven temperature and time into air fryer settings: drop the temperature by 25°F (15°C), cut the cooking time by about 20 percent, and flip or shake the food halfway through. That is the whole trick. Below you will find the full temperature chart with gas marks for UK recipes, a matching time chart, the few exceptions worth knowing, and quick answers for the temperatures people search for most. If you would rather skip the maths, the Air Fryer Calculator on this site does the same conversion for you in seconds. For everything else, the charts below are all you need.
Stick it on the fridge — every oven temperature and time, converted.
Oven to Air Fryer Temperature Conversion Chart
Use this chart when a recipe gives you an oven temperature and you need the air fryer setting. Find the oven temperature in the first column and read across. Every air fryer temperature is 25°F (15°C) lower, until the top two rows, where the air fryer column stops at 400°F (205°C) because most home air fryers go no higher than that. The gas mark column is there for older and UK recipes that never mention a number at all.
| Oven °F | Oven °C | Gas Mark | Air Fryer °F | Air Fryer °C |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 300°F | 150°C | 2 | 275°F | 135°C |
| 325°F | 165°C | 3 | 300°F | 150°C |
| 350°F | 175°C | 4 | 325°F | 160°C |
| 375°F | 190°C | 5 | 350°F | 175°C |
| 400°F | 200°C | 6 | 375°F | 190°C |
| 425°F | 220°C | 7 | 400°F | 205°C |
| 450°F | 230°C | 8 | 400°F* | 205°C* |
| 475°F | 245°C | 9 | 400°F* | 205°C* |
*For oven temperatures of 450°F (230°C) and 475°F (245°C), set the air fryer to its maximum of 400°F (205°C) and add a few extra minutes instead. The food still cooks through; it simply cannot get that extra blast of heat, so the added time makes up the difference.

Oven to Air Fryer Time Conversion Chart
Temperature is only half of the conversion. The time shrinks too, by about 20 percent. Multiply the oven time by 0.8, or just find it in this chart.
| Oven Time | Air Fryer Time |
|---|---|
| 10 min | 8 min |
| 15 min | 12 min |
| 20 min | 16 min |
| 25 min | 20 min |
| 30 min | 24 min |
| 35 min | 28 min |
| 40 min | 32 min |
| 45 min | 36 min |
| 50 min | 40 min |
| 60 min | 48 min |
So chicken that roasts for 45 minutes in the oven needs about 36 minutes in the air fryer, at the converted temperature. Always treat these times as a starting point rather than a promise. Open the basket and check a few minutes early the first time you convert any recipe, because the thickness of the food, the size of your basket and how full it is all shift the real cooking time a little.
How the Conversion Works
An air fryer is really a small, powerful convection oven. The heating element sits close to the food, and a strong fan blows the hot air around it constantly, with nowhere for the heat to wander off. In a big oven, the air is mostly still and the walls are far away, so the food cooks more slowly and less evenly. In the air fryer, that moving air wraps around every surface, which is why fries crisp up so well and why everything cooks faster.
Two adjustments follow from that. First, the temperature drops by 25°F (15°C), because the moving air delivers heat more efficiently than still air, so a lower setting does the same job. Second, the time drops by about 20 percent, because the food starts cooking properly right away instead of waiting for a large box of air to work on it. Together, the two changes keep the inside and the outside of the food finishing at roughly the same moment, which is the whole point.
If your recipe was written for a fan oven or convection oven, the maths changes slightly. A fan oven already moves its air with a fan, so it sits halfway between a regular oven and an air fryer. Take only about 10°F (5°C) off a fan oven temperature, then still cut the time by roughly 20 percent.
The rule also runs in reverse. To cook an air fryer recipe in a regular oven, add 25°F (15°C) to the temperature and add about 25 percent to the time. The oven version may come out a little less crisp, but it will cook through just fine.

When the Rule Changes
The standard rule covers most everyday cooking, but five situations need a different approach:
- Cakes and cookies need a bigger drop. Lower the temperature by 50°F (about 30°C) instead of 25°F. Baked goods brown quickly in moving air and can dome, crack or dry out at the standard setting. A cake written for 350°F (175°C) usually does better at 300°F (150°C), with a smaller time cut and an early check.
- Low temperatures drop by less. Below 325°F (165°C), reduce the temperature by only 15 to 20°F. Slow cooking relies on gentle heat, and a full 25°F drop at these settings can leave food sitting in the basket far longer than it should.
- Wet batter cannot be converted. Loose batter drips through the basket and gets blown around by the fan before it can set. Anything in a wet coating needs the oven, or a different recipe built for the air fryer from the start.
- Very large items do not fit. A whole bird or joint over about 4 lb (1.8 kg) leaves no room for air to circulate, so it browns on the outside while staying undercooked in the middle. Keep big roasts in the oven.
- Frozen packaged foods follow their own note. Many frozen products now print air fryer directions on the box, and those directions use this same conversion: 25°F (15°C) lower and about 20 percent less time than the oven directions. Our frozen recipes, like these air fryer frozen potstickers, are tested from frozen, so their times already include the conversion. You can browse more of them in the Frozen Foods collection.
Quick Conversions People Ask For
These are the four oven temperatures that come up again and again, already converted, with an example time for each:
- 350°F (175°C) oven → 325°F (160°C) air fryer. Thirty oven minutes become about 24 minutes.
- 375°F (190°C) oven → 350°F (175°C) air fryer. Twenty-five oven minutes become about 20 minutes.
- 400°F (200°C) oven → 375°F (190°C) air fryer. Thirty oven minutes become about 24 minutes.
- 425°F (220°C) oven → 400°F (205°C) air fryer. Twenty oven minutes become about 16 minutes.
Keep this page bookmarked and the conversion becomes a ten-second job: temperature down 25, time down a fifth, shake halfway. If a conversion ever goes wrong, or you want help with preheating, parchment, oil and the other everyday questions, the guides in our Air Fryer Tips section cover them one by one. And when you would rather not do any maths at all, the Air Fryer Calculator page on this site converts any temperature and time for you instantly.
